36 Weeks and Really?

So, I read an article this week that has absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy or babies…but I’m going to put both in this post…

Nothing really new to add in regards to pregnancy updates…I find once you reach a certain point it’s really just a waiting game and most things are the same ole’, same ole’.  So here I sit 4-6 weeks away from holding my baby…just waiting…uncomfortably waiting.

Baby Billings is approx. 6lbs and about 19 inches from head to toe.  Had a midwife appointment today…baby is still head down and beginning to drop a “little” at a time.  Which would explain my uncomfortable bowling ball feeling at times, my need to use the bathroom often, and the fact that sometimes I still can’t breathe 🙂  Baby Billings is kicking up a STORM now…it’s really funny to watch my stomach sometimes.

So, now onto the article I read.  It was on CNN (I’ve posted a link down below so you can read it to).  Is this really what our world is coming to on the view of marriage…that it is gradually moving away from being a monogamous relationship?  A man being interviewed in the article states “We found the expectation that one person should be our everything seemed unrealistic given our day and age.”  It then also goes on to state the words of a writer who says, “Monogamy, which is really no more than a useful social convention, will not survive. It has rarely been honored in practice; soon, it will vanish even as an ideal.”

There is such truth to that statement.  It is rarely honored.  But the sad part is that this article shows that our world says that’s ok.  We’ve moved from having affairs in marriages to it’s ok to have affairs in marriage…or it’s ok to have more than one partner.  I guess I didn’t really see that jump was actually happening until I read this article…and it made me sad.

I for one am glad that I am married to Jon and Jon only and that I don’t have to feel like I’m not enough for him.  God, forgive our world’s willing acceptance of sin.  May we who believe that marriage is between two people, for the rest of our lives, live the difference so that the world can see…through the rough times and the easy times!

(I will give the article props for ending with the fact that monogamous relationships are the most beneficial)

35 Weeks

5-7 weeks left to go!  It’s coming soon my friends!  Hard to believe that in 5-7 weeks we’ll be holding our own little child…a mini Jon is my guess 😉

Baby Billings has made it’s way down to my pelvic/bladder area which makes it really uncomfortable and sometimes painful to stand up and walk.  Feels like there’s this bowling ball that has just dropped and decided to sit in my lap.  I think the baby has “dropped” a little this week.  The head is right where it needs to be, I just wish it hadn’t happened so soon…I mean I still have a few more weeks to go…couldn’t he/she have waited a bit longer before it got in place.

Baby Billing is approx. 5.25 lbs and 18 inches.  He/she won’t grow much more in length from now on…but will put on a few more lbs.  I’ve stepped up to a midwife appointment each week now!

Here are some pics of 35 Weeks!

34 Weeeeekkkssss

34 weeks today!  “Ow” is a common word heard around my house now.  Also “What’s wrong?” coming from Jon and “Oh, it’s just the baby” from me.

I’m going to keep this one short because I don’t have the patience to write a long entry tonight and because I just wrote my 33 week one just a couple days ago (I was late).

So, Baby Billings is approx. 4.7-5 lbs and 18 inches from top to toe.  That seems really long but I have to remember that it is all curled up in there so really it’s not looking like 18 inches.  His/her bum makes a daily appearance in my right side…very uncomfortable.  My hands are swollen often now.  I took a picture of my hand when we had stopped in Montreal this week at ikea…but the picture doesn’t do it justice…they were swollen pretty bad.

Anyways, here are my 34 week pics…

33 Weeks

We’re on vacation this week…hence the lateness of the last two week updates/pictures.

We leave to go back home tomorrow…back to work and the last 6-8 weeks of my pregnancy…yes, that’s right 6-8 WEEKS LEFT!  This Thursday I’ll be 34 weeks so that’s 6 weeks from my due date…they’ll only let me go over by 2 weeks so it 8 weeks is the MAX that I will be pregnant for!  If it goes by as fast as my first 8 weeks then I should have a baby in my arms in no time.  For some reason I don’t figure it will go that fast.

We got our car seat (thanks Time & Darlene!) and our highchair.  I know it’s kind of early to get a highchair since I’ll be nursing exclusively for the first few months, but it was a good highchair for a good sale so I bought it and Jon stuffed it in our trunk…literally.  Besides, a friend of ours said I may end up using it early than I think I’m going to…not necessarily for eating.  Our car seat is installed in our back seat already…I figured Jon needed to get use to having it there 🙂

I just have a few necessary things left to get before baby arrives…like a baby monitor, crib mattress, diaper pail and the like.  Hard to believe the time is almost here!

Baby Billings is moving differently now.  The movements are more like slow motion and defined.  Sometimes he/she finds joy in bringing me pain with jabs in the side…still no kicks to the ribs or pelvis so I’m pretty happy about that, lol.  It’s just VERY uncomfortable when the baby does move…sometimes it hinders my breathing and also makes me need to pee quite often!  ALTHOUGH, I am VERY thankful on this thanksgiving Monday that Baby Billings is active because that means he/she is still alive and healthy!

Oh, and sleeping doesn’t seem to be getting any better…I’m getting use to running on little sleep now though.  I am also very thankful that I have had and am having a pretty easy pregnancy.  I’ve experienced few minor Braxton Hicks Contractions but they haven’t really been that painful.

I just took a brief intermission from this blog entry because my husband, who has stated he would never get on a motorcycle, finally let his dad take him for a ride on his bike for the first time!  I HAD to take pictures…I’m sure Jon will have them posted on his flickr shortly if you’d like to take a look:

Umm…second intermission…I just went for a ride and I’ll post a pic at the end of this post.  Difference between Jon and I though, I like motorcycles 😉

So, back to baby update.  Baby Billings could be as long as 17.2 inches from head to toe and weighs approx. 4.2 lbs.  The baby’s skin is turning less red and less wrinkly and should be head down at this point (which he/she was at my last midwife appointment).

Here are my pics for this week (a little late as well):

Pros and Cons

I’m 32 weeks pregnant today.  Yay, another milestone (according to my head and thinking)!  8 Weeks to go…which I’m sure are going to fly by.  Between vacation, being left “in charge” while my parents are away for 2 weeks on their missions trip, and the last minute “oh my goodness, baby could be here any day, I need to get/do some last minute things”, I’m sure the time will FLY by!

I thought I’d do something a little different this week.  I’ll give you the baby stats and then I’m going to compile a list of pros and cons of being pregnant.  So, if you’re squimish, or you blush when you hear the words “boob” or “breast”…you may not want to read the remainder of this blog.  I think the best thing for me before I got pregnant is that I had a friend who believed/believes in being completely honest about pregnancy and the such.  We’ve had some good conversation that would prob. have made ME blush before I got married.  So, if you’re going to get pregnant, find someone who will be honest with you about what it involves and brings…it will be one of the best thing you do!  You know what, you should have one of those friends when it comes to marriage too…you’ll realize you’re not alone in a LOT of funny things.

Oh, and I’ll keep adding to the list as my pregnancy comes to a completion, as I’m sure there are MANY more fun things ahead in the next 8 weeks!

So, Baby Billings is approx. 4lbs and 17 inches from head to toe.  I should get out a measuring tape and see how long that really is…yes, I suck at anything math related so I cannot picture it in my head.  Oh gosh, it’s 8 weeks away…I think it’s finally hit Jon and I.  It’s made me very excited and Jon very nervous, haha.

Well, to my list.  Keep in mind, these are pros and cons that I experienced.  So, when you look at my list and don’t see anything about throwing up or diarrhea, I was blessed to not have to deal with those symptoms so they will not make my list. ALSO, some of my pros will also be my cons.  ALSO, there may be more cons in the end but I believe the pros are soooo huge that they outweigh all the little cons.

Here goes…

Pros and Cons of Pregnancy

Pros

1.  No period for 9 (or more) months – Every woman’s dream

2.  Your boobs get bigger – You will also find this on my con list.  Those of you who lamented over your tiny breasts, pregnancy is a good breast booster, haha.  It’s amazingly weird.

3.  You have a LIFE growing inside of you – every day you are reminded that inside of you is a little being who God created to be your child, unique and very special

4.  You become more aware of what you eat and drink – I mean, I’m still eating sugary things like it was going out of style and I still drink pop & tea…but I don’t do it as much.  It makes you think twice about what you’re taking in your body during one day.

5.  People help you do things – Usually they want to help you MORE than you’d like…I can still lift a chair…I’m pregnant not handicap.  BUT, it is nice that people are concerned about your wellbeing.

6.  You get the joy of seeing other people find joy in your new life- like new-to-be-grandparents.

7.  Everyone thinks you look cute – baby bumps do that.  You could look the worse you’ve every thought you did and people will STILL think you are cute.

8.  Getting things/Putting things together for your first baby is SO MUCH FUN – I’ve gone through my stuff a couple times already and I’m already feeling another “look through” coming here soon.

9.  You have a LIFE growing inside of you – did I mention that already??  Seriously though, those little flutters that turn into summersaults that turn into kicks in the pelvis and jabs in the ribs are really special…you will never feel anything like it, ever, in your whole life.

Cons

1.  Your boobs get bigger – some of your shirts don’t fit anymore, or are very uncomfortable.  You will need to buy new bras every few months and boy are they VERY tender during your first trimester!  Also, people will make comments about how much you’ve “grown” AND they will make those same comments to their husbands about YOU…something I find extremely strange and uncomfortable.

2.  Heartburn – I didn’t get this until my 3rd trimester, but it is NOT fun.

3.  Gas – it just constantly runs through your body and comes out whatever end it wants to, whenever it wants to, and if you don’t let it come out it gets crammed back into your already tight digestive system causing either heartburn OR digestive pains.  Also, you may find that when you do need to burp, it won’t come out and it is one of the most uncomfortable feelings ever.  And you thought I wouldn’t be honest…

4.  Kicks that were once cute start to become either painful, annoying or uncomfortable – your baby will dig into/hit parts you never knew it could.  Your baby will keep you up at night when they think they are a part of a circus that just arrived in your belly.  Your baby will sit on or lean against body parts that just should be left alone, like your bladder and your lungs.

5.  Sleepless nights – between insomnia, excitement, inability to get comfortable and the baby’s kicking you may be up countless hours and/or tossing and turning uncontrollably.

6.  Feeling of heaviness – right about when you enter your 3rd trimester you start to feel the weight of your belly.  Getting up and down becomes a chore.  Trying to put your shoes and socks on becomes a chore.  Walking becomes a chore…

7.  Breathlessness – I have times where I just can’t breath very good.  It’s started to happen at night now when I’m trying to sleep…depends on which way I lie and it’s different every night and during the night.  It use to only happen in the day.  My heart starts to race and I feel like I’m not getting enough air.  Then it passes…before I pass out.

8.  Maternity pants – I HATE them.  They never want to stay up and when they start to fall so does your underwear.  I have to put the belly part all the way up, put my bella band over it, a tank top over that and then my shirt.  Even THEN, they STILL will not stay up the best!  I despise them and am thankful I can still fit into a couple pairs of my reg. jeans so I don’t have to wear them all the time.

Well, I think that covers it for now…I’ll add more as I think of them…
